Simply put, fertigation is a process that combines fertilization and irrigation. Fertilizer is injected into the irrigation system. It is most commonly used by commercial growers (farmers, vineyards, greenhouses, and golf courses, etc.). Lawns by Dr Vaughan took this concept and applied it to the residential lawn market.
Typical lawn service treatment visits apply fertilizer every 4 to 6 weeks. These treatments are “big meals” for the lawn because the lawn has to make do between treatments. Research studies have shown than many fertilizer nutrients are only available for 10 to 14 days for lawn uptake. Ideally, small amounts of fertilizer would be applied weekly; however, this would be a very labor intensive and cost prohibitive. Fertigation “spoon-feeds” your lawn, resulting in a healthy greener lawn, safer for the environment, and reduced costs. You eat every day; your lawn needs to eat every day too!
Fertigation Equipment Setup & Maintenance
The decorative fertigation box is placed in an out of sight area of your landscape. The pump needs a 120 volt outlet for power and a relay communication wire connection to the irrigation controller. A fertilizer injection point is made between back flow preventer and your first sprinkler zone valves. The 10 gallon container is refilled on a 4 to 8 week basis with the products that are best suited for your landscape needs. The pump is serviced, calibrated, and maintained with each service visit.
